It’s strange, but one of the more obvious things a writer ought to do consistently is to actually write.
Writers write words, after all. It’s what we do.
Yet we writers so rarely do just that. We think about writing, talk about writing, and even dream in the middle of the night about our writing, but rarely do we take the time to actually write down the words that burn through our very souls!
Writing Ideas for Scared Writers
The internet offers thousands of writing ideas, as well as both free and paid “apps” to assist the aspiring writer in us all. But let’s be real and admit that the hours spent “researching” these ideas, tips, and apps have been hours spent away from…well…writing!
One of the most amazing ways to influence someone with the gospel is to write down your thoughts in a blog post, an ebook, or even a traditionally published paperback (like my own book, for that matter). I think that most Christians would love the opportunity to impact someone around the globe with their writing skills, but most Christians aren’t unlikely to do it.
And I think it’s because we’re scared.
We’re scared of what label our friends might stamp on our finished product, what they might think about our writing skills, our points of view, or even some points in our theology.
Another way to describe it is that we suffer from Impostor Syndrome.
“I could never write a book” (we falsely assume)
“I don’t have anything to say that anyone would want to read” (we tell ourselves)
“Writing books is for people who understand grammar and plot and character development and…” (Yes, we have a lot of excuses to pull from.)
3 Writing Ideas for Aspiring Christian Writers
I published a heartfelt article on GodlyWriters.com a couple of days ago. The article has to do with motivating ourselves to do “the work” of writing what God has called us to write.
The Lord may be calling you to a writing ministry, if you’d but stop and listen to his encouraging voice.
My article offers a confession of my own sin, some fears I hold on to, and ends with providing three writing ideas to help you start writing, typing, dictating, or however you plan to use your writing to impact of the kingdom of heaven.
I encourage you to click here and read that article. Feel free to leave a comment there as well.
But mostly, I pray that if you have been considering using writing as a ministry to encourage believers in their walk of faith, or exhorting non-Christians to surrender to Jesus Christ by faith alone, then start today.
Start right now.
Yes, right now!
Write away, my friend, and may God be honored as he uses your writing to glorify his name.
