Devoted.
It’s a wonderful word, a strong word, an important word.
It’s a word that means you’re all in. You’re invested. You’re not merely dipping your toe in the water to check the temperature.
In the Bible, the word is often used in the Old Testament for something negative. Something “devoted to destruction.”
In the New Testament, however, it’s a word often associated with people who give themselves over to the Lord, specifically in the act of worship and ministry.
As Christians, we are to be wholly devoted to the Lord and devote ourselves to ministry toward others.
But it’s also a word that carries the meaning of something “WE” must do because we want to. In other words, you can’t force someone into a holy devotion. It’s something you must want to do.
In the early church in Acts, the new believers devoted themselves to God and others. It says in Acts 2:42, “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
QUESTION: How are you doing in your devotion to the Lord?
