Is what you’re doing with your life right now what you believe…without a shadow of a doubt…what you are absolutely meant to do with your life?
I know, that’s a tough question. But have you ever answered it?
This article is about finding your passion and finding your purpose. Or, rather, it’s about proving which of the two is more important in the end.
Finding Your Passion?
No, I don’t believe that finding your passion in life is the answer to lasting happiness. It won’t be the answer to your problems.
Do yourself a favor and stop fretting over figuring out what you’re passionate about and pursuing it with all your might. That pursuit, I believe, is a raw canker in the mouth and it’s spread thick all over the internet. “Figure out what you’re passionate about and then pursue it!” is the advice touted by too many supposed internet gurus.
Frankly, “pursue your passion in life” is the misguided advice of people who are still searching for it themselves!
Passion changes with the wind. What you’re interested in and fascinated by today will probably bore you to death tomorrow. Passions are hobbies. Passions are temporary. Passions don’t pay the bills or change people’s lives!
My advice to you is this:
“Stop worrying about finding your passion and–instead–actually do the things you’re currently excited about.”
In fact, why not change the momentum of finding your passion into finding your purpose!
Finding Your Purpose!
Newsflash: “Finding your purpose in life” is intensely more important to your joy and happiness than “figuring out what your passion is” could ever be.
Your purpose in life is why you’re breathing right now. Inhale. Exhale. You’re here for a reason. What’s your purpose in life?
- Why are you alive today?
- What do you want to accomplish with your life?
- Who will remember you when you pass from this world?
- What will you be most remembered for?
- What’s the ONE thing you would do with your life if nothing could stop you?
Purpose trumps passion every time. No question about it.
You were created and designed with a purpose in mind and you’re alive right now to fulfill that purpose.
In fact, why not harness your passions in order to help you achieve your greater purpose? That could be the greatest thing you might do even today.
The Problem With Finding Your Passion
Focusing on your own passions, rather than your primary purpose in life, is self-serving, egotistical, and selfish. It’s a lot more than that, too, but I’m trying to keep it short and sweet here.
Focusing on “finding your passion” means it’s all about you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you…
When really it’s about other people, right?
You’ll never be more happy than when you’re serving other people and helping other people in their daily lives. Assisting other people is where true satisfaction resides.
“And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35)
In conclusion…do other people a favor and do yourself the greatest favor ever by ceasing with all that “finding your passion” business, and start right now with “finding your purpose.”
Trust me, you’ll be so happy you did!
