This past Wednesday night I started teaching a new study through the book of Ephesians. What a great book!
One of the verses we focused on is the last verse in that book. It says, “Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.” (Ephesians 6:24)
It’s all about love!
Love for Jesus Christ and love incorruptible.
The bad news is that about thirty years after the founding of that church, the congregation had stopped loving Jesus.
Yikes!
Oh, they knew their Bibles. They had solid theology. The couldn’t stand false prophets. They were busy doing ministry and service and they persevered for the name of Jesus!
But…
But, they got so preoccupied with everything that they fell out of love with Jesus.
Hmmmmm.
Jesus had the apostle John pen a letter to the church in Ephesus and Jesus said this to them: “But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.” (Revelation 2:4,5)
Imagine that.
There was a lot of good going on in that congregation, but the bad so far outweighed the good that Jesus told them to repent or He would close down their church (“remove your lamp stand”) altogether. Jesus would rather there be no church in the city of Ephesus than to have one that claimed to represent Him yet didn’t love Him.
My friends, let’s always remember to keep Jesus front and center of everything we do! Let’s keep loving Jesus.
Amen? Amen!
