“All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the LORD weighs the motives” (Proverbs 16:2).
I wonder if God grades on a curve.
I wonder if the Lord is more interested in your effort than he is in seeing your quarterly results.
Yes, I wonder…
Motivation Matters (a lot)
Human beings are drowning in results. Do yourself a favor and don’t get too focused on the details. Remember that for 2016.
We often sweat and fuss and stress about the minutiae of how to bring something to pass. But that isn’t what matters most.
Is God interested in the “Why” more than he is in the “How” or the “What”?
I think so.
It’s not that the “what” is unimportant. It’s just that it’s not as important as you once thought it was.
God grades on the curve of motivation. He is interested in motives. He is interested in your why.
Don’t forget that.
PS: When you have your motivation for Why in its proper place, God will work out the details of your What and your How. (Just like the next verse says)
“Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).
Ginger McBride says
What do you do with Paul’s statement to the Philippians “It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill…the former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached…” (Philippians 1:15, 17, 18)
Charles Specht says
It is true. Scripture is always true.
And that is why we need to make sure that our motivation always (Always!) squares with God’s will and his purposes. Otherwise our motivation is sinful.
